There is a quiet struggle that often hides in the hearts of those who love God. It is the thought of failing Him, of disappointing family, and of bringing pain to the people we love.
Sometimes those thoughts grow so loud that we begin carrying tomorrow before it arrives. We imagine failures we have not committed. We grieve consequences that have not happened. We begin to live beneath the weight of a future that does not yet exist.
But the Lord never asked us to carry shame for roads we have not walked. He asked us to walk with Him today.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.” Matthew 6:34
Godliness does not mean we will never fail. It means our heart stays turned toward God. It means we are willing to be corrected, willing to tell the truth, willing to repent, and willing to return when we have wandered.
David sinned greatly, but he returned to God with a broken heart. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
Peter denied Jesus, but Jesus restored him. His failure was not the end of his story. Neither is ours.
The Lord does not excuse sin, but He does not despise a humble heart. “A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.” Psalm 51:17
We do not honor God by pretending to be perfect. We honor Him by walking in truth, receiving correction, getting back up, and returning quickly when we are wrong.
Jesus carried our shame so that we could live for righteousness. “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness.” 1 Peter 2:24
You do not have to borrow shame from tomorrow. You do not have to rehearse every possible weakness. You only have to keep your heart turned toward the Lord today.
And when the question rises, “What if I fail?” answer it with this:
I will walk with God today. He is able to keep me.
“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling.” Jude 1:24
