I saw a single balloon rise,
A splash of color in the blue,
A little sign of blessing sent,
A promise bright and true.
Then suddenly the balloon burst—
But nothing there was lost;
A hundred more came pouring forth,
Like seeds upon the wind were tossed.
And every one that touched the sky
Began to multiply;
A hundred became thousands more,
Until they filled the sky.
Red and golden, pink and blue,
Joy scattered everywhere;
Blessing bursting into blessing,
Color filling all the air.
No hand could gather all of them,
No vessel hold their span;
For what the Lord had blessed and loosed
Was growing past the plan.
And on they sailed beyond our sight,
Where other hearts would see—
The blessing never ours to hold,
But ours to set it free.
And generations yet to come
Would find their portion there—
Beneath a sky alive with promise,
Color, blessing everywhere.
